Log in to your Amara account
Add from a hosting site OR using a direct link
Amara does not host videos
We only import video information
Video must be embeddable and public to view on Amara
Check in host site settings, whitelist if necessary
If a video is private, users will not be able to view it
If a video is password protected, users must enter the password to view
You can add a video:
To the public video library so volunteers can contribute subtitles
To a team where you can control who can view your videos and add subtitles

Add a video to the Amara public video library through your profile:
2) Click on your username in the top right corner
3) Click Subtitle video in the dropdown menu
This will open the Subtitle a Video page:
Paste the URL of your video and click Begin.
For videos on hosting websites like Youtube or Vimeo the URL of the video is in the address bar of video page:
Videos you submit to Amara’s public area:
Cannot be deleted by users
Should not have copyright issues or sensitive information
Must be set to public so other users can view them
YouTube:
Public videos
Unlisted videos
Vimeo:

Password protected videos
Users must enter password to view
If Amara is able to find your video online and recognize the video format, the system will create a Web page for your video and you will be redirected to the video page:
If you are the first to add the video, it will be visible on your profile. If someone else added the video to the Amara public library, you will be redirected to the public video page that already exists.
Subtitling Videos in Amara’s public video library
On the video page users can click “Add a new language” to start new subtitles in their language.
You and other Amara users will be able to add subtitles to your video.
Note: If you are adding a video from your account on an external hosting site (YouTube, Vimeo), you can connect your account to Amara to import existing subtitles and export subtitles made on Amara.

If you are unable to add your video to Amara:
If the video belongs to an Amara team with proprietary videos, individuals are not allowed to make subtitles in the public area.
To create your own Amara Enterprise Team, contact enterprise@amara.org!
Before adding a video to a team:
You must be a Manager, Administrator, or Owner of a team

Public videos are easiest for allowing Amara users to view and subtitle.
For subtitling unlisted and private videos from YouTube, read our YouTube article.

You can add videos to your team from a few different places: (as manager or above)
Team > Management > Videos
Video Details page
Using Amara API
From your Team Management page:
Management > Videos tab > click “Add videos” to the right of your videos
You can also use Add multiple urls to add a group of videos to your team in bulk.
In Team Settings > Workflow, you can change your settings to allow team managers to also add videos to the team.
From Video Details page:
For videos already in the Amara public area, a link for “add video to team” appears in the left panel.
The Video details page may not be visible to the public , depending on the team’s video visibility settings
Subtitling Videos on your Amara Team
Create requests manually or automatically for a video on your Amara Team.
Set the original language when you add a video. If the original language is unclear or not in the language dropdown list you can use alternate settings
In a Collaboration team select “Don’t Set” or “Other” from the dropdown menu:
In a Flexible team select “Other [x-other]” from the dropdown menu:
