Miro would be better if it got its music data from another open source project like MusicBrainz

I just found and downloaded Miro on the selling point that it's open source and trying to make all media more accessible. Which is why I was surprised to learn that it gets its data from 7digital and Echo Nest. I know that their audio fingerprinting service is open source, but from what I can tell, the music metadata isn't. There are also other open source fingerprinter available. 7digital, one the other hand, seems to be a complete record company lackey, which won't let me buy and download Australian music while I'm overseas.
MusicBrainz is just one example of open source metadata I can think of, but I'm sure there are others.
Can anyone explain the rationale behind this decision?
