Thank you for reporting that issue. Actually, Amara's tech staff is already looking into it. Normally, it only affects subtitles in playing mode in the Amara player, but not the subtitle file nor its viewing in the editing player, where line breaks are preserved.
Should it not be so with the videos that you are / have been working on, could you please indicate the URLs of the affected subtitles here?

I've just put a video on the platform

and tried to respect the 42 characters per line rule by using ctrl + enter to get line breaks in my subtitles.
This seemed to work but when I play the video, it doesn't.
Lines are too long and the only breaks are entered by the system when the line is so long that it cannot be displayed
eg: I have in editor
Hi. This is an introduction to
the language tool rule editor.
on screen in play, I can see
Hi. This is an introduction to the
language tool rule editor.
or
This rule editor lets you
write those error patterns.
becomes
This rule editor lets you write those
error patterns.
